Coursework: Preliminary exercise

Coursework: Preliminary exercise

1) State the genre you have chosen - horror or coming of age drama.
I am possibly going to do a coming of age drama as it appears to be easier.

2) Bend It Like Beckham
-the film appears to have a main character who is from an Asian background and that's where the problems in the movie come from.
- the trailer seems to be giving details about the character in the trailer e.g family, friends, goals and ambitions
- a song from the 90's or 00's seem to be playing in the background
-there are a lot of shots showing the football which appears to be fast-paced and quick.

Moonlight
- the film has three segments of the main characters life which the camera keeps cutting back to
- the shots seem to show characters talking to each other showing the movie has a lot of dialogue .
-the music background is different to other movies showing how this movie is focused on character.

Coach Carter
- the trailer has shots that show the key characters
- some shots appear to be focusing on the basketball
- there are shots that show dialogue between characters which could show things like conflict which could show the themes and aspects the movie is going to focus on.

Harry Potter
- the trailer has a music background which  matches the shots and theme of the movie.
- the trailer has characters that are central to the movie and shows them talking to each other.
- the film has shots which focuses on the characters and the locations that are going to be included in the film
- the film shows a range of characters but mainly focuses on the main character and the supporting characters.

The Karate Kid
- the film shows the main character and supporting characters
- the film uses shots and dialogue to show conflict and set up motivation and goals for the main character.
- the film also uses soundtrack to heighten and build on the scenes shown on the trailer which will eventually appear in the movie.

3) I will be focusing on making a 1-2 minute film scene from a low budget film. Most coming of age dramas focus on a problem or focus on the main character reaching adult hood and because of this, the audience for coming of age dramas tend to be young people as they're probably going through the stage or have passed the stage. Also, coming of age dramas tend to have comedy or humour since its usually about young people so that they might be an aspect that I would probably focus on. Coming of age dramas also have a problem that is central to the main character and causes him difficulty throughout the film however this would be hard as it would be only a short film scene ranging from 1-2 minutes.

Also, the sound track or background music would be normal as it is a coming of age drama and there aren't a lot of background music that are used for coming of age dramas when compared to other genre's such as action, horror and thriller,
