 Coursework: Preliminary Exercise 1) Edge of Seventeen: This films is a coming of age movie. In the trailer narrative and genre is communicated to the audience through the main character and the supporting character having a dialogue. The dialogue shows the main character discussing how she is having suicidal thoughts which she tells her teacher who is the supporting character. The genre is shown through the main character talking about her problems which fits the coming of age genre since it talks about adolescence which can be described as a tough and confusing time and the main character demonstrates that.. Also genre and narrative is shown to the audience through quick and fast shots which cutback to when each character is talking. The trailer then shows the main characters talking about different people in her school and how she ridicules them thus showing how loneliness or isolation is one of the themes of the narrative.
