Scene 1: 

4:58 - 8:20 and 34:00 - 37:20

Representations: 
-Scene shows the respect that East Germany has for soldiers and its respect for the military.
-lack of consumer goods in East Germany e.g the agent giving her sister coffee.
-lack of adequate medical care, the main character's mother wasn't or might not be able to get a transplant.
-East Germany's weak links with Western pop culture.
-Western Culture is deemed more admirable and trendy shown by the music on the TV.

-East Germany still retains an interest for the culture e.g social music.
-More range of foods e.g barbecue, plentiful, bountiful and luxurious amounts of consumer goods, shows West Germany and its relation with the West  has more to offer for its residents and the well-being of its people

Technical Codes: 
-Music on the TV links to the idea of a nuclear war. 



Scene 2:

14:30 - 20:25

Representations: 
-Fascination and amazement by the food in the supermarket and high enjoyment of the drink and burger both things associated with optimism.
-The clothes that the main character are bright which contrasts with the clothes shown in East Germany but also one of the brands he was wearing was Puma which links to the idea of the West fascinated with brands.
-This shows the financial state of both sides, the West seems to be more rich and has more resources for its residents while the East is more poor.

Audio codes:
- Song playing in the supermarket links with his use by the agents of Western Germany.The song that plays on the supermarket is a Western song called "Sweet Dreams" which shows how Western Europe has a closer relationship with the Western world like America and Britain

Representation of East and West Germany: 
-East Germany appears to be poorer whilst East Germany is more rich.
-West Germany has more resources such as hospitals and the ability to put the protagonist's mother through dialysis.

Audience Pleasure: 
-The audience finally is able to see how West Germany is presented and the resources and facilities that it has.



Scene 3: Training montage scene when Martin/Moritz learns how to be a spy:

Technical Codes: 
-The camera work was quick and fast to show how quickly he needs to learn the information he is being taught but also to make sure the audience knows it as well.
-There are captions and text on the screen to show how both sides pronounce words which also allows the audience to see the difference.
-There was a POV when the protagonist is taking a picture to make it easier for the audience to see what he is taking a picture off.

Audio codes:
-There was a voice over used showing one off the agents explaining the information that he needs to learn and also was quick to show, the speed in which he needs to understand the information.
-There were things such sounds used when the objects were being shown and the protagonist needed to learn how they are pronounced based on what side he is on.


Audience pleasures:
-The audience get to see the main character doing spy things such as espionage and pickpocketing.
-The audience gets to see how different both sides of Germany are.
-He gets gadgets that help him achieve his mission.


Intertextuality:
-The scene in which he is learning how to do spy things is a reference to spy movies such as James Bond
-The scene in which he gets his weapon is a reference to James Bond getting his gadgets from Q.



Scene 4: Briefcase scene when Martin/Moritz is stealing the NATO nuclear plans

Technical and Audio codes: 
-There are close ups in which the main character is going through the case, this is used to show his reactions and increase tension in the scene.
-There was a medium shot that was presented as though it was live feed from a CCTV, this makes it seem as though the protagonist is being watched, it also links to the spy drama and increases the tension in the scene.
-There is background music used to further enhance the tension and drama, this counts as non-diegetic sound.

Audience Pleasures:
-The audience are pleased as this scene is intense thus making them intrigued.
-This scene mirrors or feels like spy drama movies.
-The audience want the protagonist to get the information
-There are references to things in real life such as Ronald Reagan and references to nuclear weapons and pictures of weapons thus showing the severity of the time period thus making the protagonist's mission seem more important.
