Post Modernism

Post Modernism

1) The break down of the distinction between culture and society
An emphasis on style at the expense of substance and content
The break down of the distinction art and popular culture
    Confusion over Time and Space
    Decline of Meta-Narratives

Sacha Baron Cohen plays characters that are more famous than he is and whenever he is interviewed his characters are interviewed rather than him as a character.

2) The idea of historical deafness can relate to Deutschland 83 as the audience views some of the scenes to be real when they could be fictionalised and media-isation causes historical things to be changed or lost.

3) Examples of style and substance are how people expensive clothes when they could get clothes that are the same but rather lack a logo on it, people prefer the branded and expensive as it allows them to appear as more rich and sophisticated.

4) Rap which can be associated with popular culture use classical songs as sample and classical songs are viewed as high art which causes a break down between art and popular culture. In Deutschland 83 we are able to see break downs through the difference between the East and West Germany.

5) Bricolage is the construction or creation from a diverse range of available things, this is shown in Deutschland 83 when songs are included such as Sweet Dreams being included in an episode.

6) Diversion can explain the reason why a viewer might watch the TV series to distract the person from real life and as an escape from everyday life.

7) Genre- Deutschland 83 falls under the genre spy drama as it conventions such as action, espionage, secrecy and working for a secret branch that wishes to protect the nation and operates under government.

Ideology- Deutschland 83 has an ideology such as the belief in protecting a nation and the unification of Germany and the wish to prevent a nuclear war.

Audience 2- The trailer sets up mysteries and events and the viewer and audience would have to watch the series as a whole in order to clarify the mystery that was previously set up.

8) The fact that the main character has to do unconventional methods in order to gain information that would be opposed and look down upon if it was brought up to the population.

9) The scene in which the protagonists cover identity is revealed and the real person that the identity was based was assassinated but the TV presents it as something minor and the way it was presented in the first place was through a romantic interaction.

10) Audience might enjoy it due to it being presented differently which can catch audiences off guard and further enhance audience fascination.
